0125 Youth Sleep-Wake Experience in Juvenile Justice Facilities: A Descriptive Analysis

Abstract Introduction With our knowledge of adolescents’ sleep and circadian rhythms, it is striking that there minimal research on the environment health youth residing in juvenile justice facilities. Earlier findings from group (Woodard et al., 2022) suggest sleep-wake schedules nighttime light exposure increase youth’s likelihood for conditioned insomnia symptoms and/or dysregulation. The aim this qualitative analysis to examine perspectives about their sleep-living derived brief semi-structured interviews. Methods Youth participants (N = 19, ages 13-20 years) were recruited 6 Department Juvenile Services (DJS) detention/treatment facilities Maryland. For 7 consecutive mornings, completed a diary reporting bed/wake times, onset, type (nocturnal) exposure. After week, interviewed (virtual platform) experience with study opinions scheduling environmental factors they believe influenced during previous days. Based 8 interview questions, researchers created codes such as increased knowledge, disturbances, trouble sleeping patterns, factors.
